The role of managers/supervisors in HEI's has become increasingly pressured and challenging in the wider global environment with changes in technology, funding and business models. HEI's leadership roles are increasingly complex, with multiple stakeholders to satisfy. Managers must influence and lead and also require strong leadership skills, specific workforce knowledge, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing requirements.

Objectives - To ensure that managers and supervisors at Stellenbosch University meet these requirements the Supervisory Leadership Development Programme is designed to help managers and supervisors better address these challenges. The programme focusses mainly on three main components: training in leadership knowledge and skills necessary for effective workforce administration awareness of oneself as a leader The programme offers managers/supervisors the ideal environment to both deepen and broaden their understanding of the challenges facing HEI's and develop strategies to meet them. It also provides a highly supportive environment in which to examine how to position yourself. Further the programme is designed to create a continuous learning and development environment by: Creating opportunities to ask challenging questions and discuss dilemmas in a safe environment. Experiencing action learning and networking. Developing personal leadership/self-knowledge/knowing self as a leader.
